keeping busy

I woke up with a headache and I think I'm cranky, but I've kept myself busy in an effort to distract myself. I designed a new wallpaper for my desktop and took some photos of my watches so that I could get them listed. Here are the two newest additions to my Etsy shop.

I made "Tilly" for myself a month or so ago and I wear it all the time. It goes with EVERYTHING! I sold one a few weeks back and finally got another made to list. "Blink" is new and is so sweet and fun. Black and pink are so classic and fun. I'll have to make another one just for me. That's what happens when I make a fun new band - I have to have one too! I think I have twenty of these bands myself :)

Time flies

So, this week FLEW by. I didn't work much and I slept a lot. Sounds great, right? It wasn't. As much as I'd love to never work again, I am so much more productive when I do. This week wasn't so much lazy as it was sick. I got a nasty stomach bug from my niece and nephews and spent the better part of three days asleep. That beat the alternative activity I had to deal with when I was awake...

Anyway, I'm finally starting to feel better. With increased energy and motivation, I finally listed some watches for sale. I'll get more posted throughout the week, but for now - you can see what's for sale here.

using my stash

There's one problem with using beads I've had stashed for a long time - I ended up making a necklace that I just love and I'm not able to reproduce it. Sigh. Luckily, I was able to track down some very similar beads online, so I'll be able to make a few more. Whew! That's good, since I had someone ask to purchase one when she saw me wearing it for the first time. Soon enough, I'll have a few more completed so I can post one in my shop as well.

buy homemade!

Today, the Nester is having a "handmade holiday" link party. I just had to join in the fun! Check out my Etsy shop to see my own homemade wares.

I'll post more info once I'm at work and have some free time... oh, the irony!

** I'm at work now, with ample free time to blog :) **
There's a certain thrill that can come only from buying homemade. Knowing that the item you just purchased was lovingly made, and possibly loved before it came to be yours. The homemade items seem to have so much more life and personality than the mass-produced things you can buy at a retail chain.

I've never been disappointed by a homemade purchase and I try my best to make sure that anyone buying from me can say the same. My items are lovingly created with great attention to detail. I often make two of each item - one for me and one to sell - because I fall in love with almost every piece I create.

Go. Buy homemade! To sweeten the deal, anyone that orders from my Etsy shop between now and 10/26/08 will get a free gift included with their purchase.

peek

I have been busy making jewelry to add to my shop. That's the easy part. Next comes photography and coming up with a decent name/description. The photos already in my shop aren't as great as I want them to be. Getting a great shot of jewelry is honestly a pain in the butt. I'm trying though. (click to enlarge photo)

The bracelet above is one of the very first pieces I ever created and I get compliments on it every time I wear it. I have a couple made up to sell now as well. I just can't come up with a name or a description. Help a girl out! In fact, I'll make it a giveaway... please leave a comment with a name/description for this and I'll enter your name into a random drawing to get one of these babies free! (I'll announce the winner on Monday morning, so get your suggestions in by Sunday night).

good investment!

I sold a necklace today with a little help from BabyBoss. Gavin and Laura have such a fun shop and some great items for babies. I don't have babies, but I do have poor descriptive writing skills. LOL. Luckily, Gavin is a master at doing just that. I made a small investment for the good of my shop and bought their 'ad copy service.' We then collaborated on the details of the necklace and He came back with a totally awesome description. I updated the description, relisted the item, and had it sold within 12 hours!!! Serpentine was prized by ancient civilizations, revered for its mystical healing and protective powers and was believed to bless the wearer with wisdom and harmony. What better way to fill your world with peace, with health and with love – the cornerstones of a happy, vibrant life – than through this truly special, and appropriately named, work of art.

Smooth beads in subdued hues of creamy green are connected by a delicate chain, and its elegant 34” length makes it perfectly appropriate for a casual afternoon spent with close friends or an evening alone, reconnecting with that special loved one.

Perfect as a gift, or as a special treat for yourself, Vitality is certain to bring serenity to your life and elicit compliments from admirers.

rag quilt

I finished my rag quilt today and it's so stinking cute!!
Photobucket
Rag quilts are generally made by sewing together 'sandwiches' composed of 2 layers of fabric with batting or a layer of flannel in between. I wanted this one to be lightweight, but snuggly, so I have cotton prints on the front and pink flannel on the back.

Rag quilts are also generally stitched diagonally from corner to corner, forming an X on each piece. I cut all the squares a couple weeks ago and got them all sewed together with the X's and HATED it! These pieces are small enough that they don't require stitching within the squares, so I unpicked all of them and sewed the blanket without the diagonal stitching. Sunday, I sat down and got it sewn together and started cutting the exposed seams. Monday, I went and bought a new pair of scissors to save my hands. LOL (If you're going to make a rag quilt, I HIGHLY recommend getting a pair of spring-loaded scissors. Your hands will thank you for it!)

I want to get some better photos taken before I post this on Etsy, but I'll have to wait on that. It seems I can only get good photos between 9:00-11:00 AM and I happen to be at work during that timeframe. Ugh.

going live

I started an Etsy shop today. It's something I've thought about doing for a while, because honestly, once I make something I generally have enough supplies to make duplicates, but I don't necessarily need duplicates for myself. It also motivates me to get things done. I'll add more things to the store in the next week or two; scrapbooking, sewing, and beading items will be the majority of my stuff. I don't really care if I don't have huge sales or anything. I'm bored and having fun, so that alone is worth it to me.

In other news, we visited Tiffany and her twins this morning. They are 2.5 months old and so cute. They still have a newborn cry. It's sweet. I can't wait for Tiff to come back to work, but I wish (for her and the babies' sake) that her maternity leave never had to end.

I'm gonna try to get some organizing done tonight so that I can do some creating tomorrow. Life is good. Sure, I have complaints (who doesn't?!) but nothing too major. Lucky me!
